Jacqueline Bishop
• Bishop has been influenced by more than two decades of traveling through forests in the Amazon, experiencing Hurricane Katrina (2005), and documenting the Deepwater Horizon BP oil spill (2010)
• Her early work was influenced by the life and philosophy of slain Brazilian rubber tapper Chico Mendes. A trade union leader and environmentalist, Mendes advocated on behalf of Brazil’s rural poor and indigenous peoples. Bishop wrote a book about his activism: Em Memoria Chico Mendes: A Tribute on the Ten-Year Anniversary of His Death (New Orleans: Lavender Ink, 1998).
• The artist earned a bachelor of fine arts degree at the University of Kansas and a matching degree in painting from the University of New Orleans. She received a master of fine arts degree from Tulane University.
• Bishop has taught art at Tulane University and Loyola University and been a producer on Louisiana Artist, WWWNO, New Orleans.
