Jenny Holzer
• Holzer creates across different mediums but always uses text as image. Earlier in her career, Holzer would carve inscriptions on benches, but recent work utilizes electronic displays.
• She attended Duke University in 1968 before earning a bachelor of fine art degree from Ohio University at Athens in 1972. In 1977, she received her master of fine art degree from the Rhode Island School of Design.
• In 1989, she became the first woman artist to represent the United States at the prestigious international contemporary art festival Venice Biennale and won the Biennale’s Lion Award.
