Peter (Pete) Joseph Souza
• Souza was raised in South Dartmouth, Massachusetts, and is a resident of Arlington, Virginia.
• He received his undergraduate degree at Boston University before attending Kansas State University, where he earned a master’s degree in photojournalism.
• Souza worked at the Chanute Tribune and Hutchinson News in Kansas before gaining positions in larger newspapers, including the Chicago Tribune, where he worked in the Washington bureau. Souza documented the fall of Kabul, Afghanistan, shortly after the events of September 11, 2001.
• Souza served as White House photographer for Presidents Ronald Reagan and Barack Obama. When President Ronald Reagan died in June 2004, Nancy Reagan asked him to serve as official photographer of the funeral events.
• Souza is the author of Images of Greatness: An Intimate Look at the Presidency of Ronald Reagan (2004); The Rise of Barack Obama (2008); and Obama: An Intimate Portrait (2017).
