Vinod S. Patel
The artist started his career in graphic design at Maharaja Sayajirao University (MSU) in Baroda and the Central School of Art in London. After returning from abroad in 1966, he joined the faculty of MSU and started exploring lithography and screenprint with Jyoti Bhatt, another artist featured in this exhibition. Shortly afterwards, Purshottam Dumal, whose work was included in the first phase of this exhibition, also joined MSU. By 1970, the printmaking program headed by these three artists offered instruction in etching, lithography, woodcut, screenprint, and photography.
In an interview with artist Charles Stroh, Patel stated: “I like to borrow images from magazines and other printed materials and transfer them to the silkscreen. Other things which I like are overprinted, over-pasted posters on the street corner with some calligraphy or graffiti on top of it.”
