Kambli initially practiced drawing but trained in painting at the Goa College of Art and in graphic arts at Kala-Bhavana Institute of Fine Arts and Crafts, Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan. Under the mentorship of printmakers Somnath Hore and Sanat Kar, he developed narratives incorporating concepts from Indian religion, mythology, and daily life.

Kambli studied art in India and England. He visited the University of Michigan in Kalamazoo as a Fulbright scholar in 1998-1999 at the invitation of Charles Stroh, who was at that time a professor there, and had a solo exhibition on campus. He also delivered lectures and conducted demonstrations at various institutions around Michigan and in Chicago. Later, he worked at the Printmaking Workshop in New York, founded by Robert Blackburn, alongside other international printmakers, including Devraj Dakoji, whose work is on display in this gallery.
