Jai Krishna Agarwal
Traditional Indian architecture, miniature painting, and spatial allusions inform the work of Jai Krishna Agarwal. After briefly studying architecture at the Lucknow College of Art, Agarwal transitioned to painting. The artist began teaching and working in printmaking in 1962 when he joined his alma mater as a teacher. Formative for Agarwal’s practice were several workshops. These included working at Somnath Hore’s Delhi studio (also in this exhibition) for two months in 1964, attending Paul Lingren’s USIS 1970 workshop in Delhi also attended by artists like Jyoti Bhatt, and Jagmohan Chopra, and in 1972 attending Slade School of Art in London for photo etching.
