On View
Not on viewWitold Gordon’s plate and Refregier’s platter are two of the Stonelain ceramics produced in early 1952 to coordinate with the textile patterns these artists designed for the AAA-Riverdale fabrics line Pioneer Pathways (displayed on the nearby wall). For this ceramic series, Stonelain personnel copied motifs from the fabric patterns. The two ceramics here indicate the contrasting stylistic preferences of potential consumers, ranging from the still life of shells reminiscent of synthetic cubism to a cartoon-like narrative of America’s whaling history.
