Description
Ohno served as the master scientific glassblower for Kansas State University’s physics and chemistry departments from 1961 until he retired in 1996. In 1961 he constructed the first “true/open” glass Klein bottle, a mathematical closed non-orientable surface, similar to a Mobius strip, first described in 1882 by German mathematician Felix Klein.  For more information, please visit the Exploration Station to read a chapter on Topology from M is for Math, Museum and Manhattan, Kansas by K-State professor Natasha Rozhkovskaya

Ohno and his family came to K-State from Japan. He was a talented glass artist, creating glass models of ships and buildings. In addition, Ohno earned a black belt and helped found the K-State Judo Club.
