Not on viewOhno served as the master scientific glassblower for Kansas State University’s physics and chemistry departments from 1961 until he retired in 1996. In 1961 he constructed the first “true/open” glass Klein bottle, a mathematical closed non-orientable surface, similar to a Mobius strip, first described in 1882 by German mathematician Felix Klein. Ohno and his family came to K-State from Japan. He was a talented glass artist, creating glass models of ships and buildings. In addition, Ohno earned a black belt and helped found the K-State Judo Club.
