On View
Not on view• Saitō stayed in Paris for two months in 1959. This print depicts a person walking along the Seine River in Paris.
• This print shows an example of the printmaking technique collagraphy, developed by American artist Glen Alps at the University of Washington, Seattle in 1956. The section made using collagraphy in Seine, Paris is at left, under the city skyline. In collagraphy, various materials are glued to a printing surface. After the surface is constructed, it is sealed and inked. To produce a print, paper is pressed onto the inked surface, resulting in a highly textured image.
• Saitō studied collagraphy with Glen Alps in 1956, when he visited the United States as a guest artist sponsored by the United States Department of State and the Asia Foundation.
