Description

·         This print was commissioned for the 1976 Olympics in Montreal. The tradition of commissioning art from notable artists has a long history and continues today. For an artist to be contacted by the Olympic committee is an honor.

·         Embrace echoes the dynamic designs and limited palette of Krasner’s collages.

·         Krasner never saw herself as a feminist artist. She was quoted saying, “I’m an artist—not a “woman” artist; not an “American” artist.” However, she saw the need for the feminist movement and saw her own career gain prestige because of it.

·         Krasner recognized her own struggle as a woman in the artworld prior to feminism. In a quote published in the Times, Kranser said Feminism, “should have come along 30 years earlier… We could have used it then.”
