Not on view• Like the parents featured in My Friend Flicka, Curry’s father and mother were ranchers. They had two properties, one outside of Winchester, Kansas, and another near Scottsdale, Arizona.
• Curry’s first art lessons began on the family farm in Kansas. He sketched animals, including pigs, cows, and horses. The family owned draft horses, and Curry often rode one to school.
• Mary O’Hara’s novel Flicka was released in 1941; a film adaption appeared in 1943. Curry asked for stills from the movie to develop ideas for his 1944 illustrations.
