Painting Borges: Philosophy Interpreting Art Interpreting Literature

2014-03-07 to 2014-05-18
Description
Curator Jorge J. E. Gracia selects twenty-four artistic representations of twelve of Jorge Luis Borges’ most famous stories about identity and memory, freedom and destiny, and faith and divinity. This philosophical exploration of how artists have interpreted literature makes new inroads into the understanding of Borges’ work, and introduces viewers to vibrant paintings and works on paper by sixteen contemporary Argentinean and Cuban artists.

Adjacent to the exhibition is a reading room allowing visitors to explore books and other materials related to Borges’ literature and philosophy. This installation is made possible by a partnership with K-State Libraries.

Painting Borges: Art Interpreting Literature is organized by the University at Buffalo and UB Galleries, Buffalo, New York. The exhibition was curated by Jorge J. E. Gracia, Samuel P. Capen Chair and SUNY Distinguished Professor, University at Buffalo, Amherst.
